Mysterious wooden boxes with important notes attached to them have washed up on beaches in Texas.
At least four of the neon pink and neon green devices were found across coastlines such as Galveston over the last few days.
They are meant to replicate sea turtle carcasses and are equipped with vital tracking devices for a study by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.

Scientists from Gulf Center for Sea Turtles (GCSTR) released the 'effigy drifters' off the Chandeleur Island, Louisiana into the northern Gulf of Mexico to help track the movements of the critically endangered species.
But at least four have since washed up, with the public asked to take photos and contact the sea turtle hotline at 1-866-TURTLE-5.
If a beachgoer sees the box in the waters they are instructed not to touch them unless told to do so by the NOAA, Chrom.com reported.

There are approximately, 6.5 million sea turtles that live in the wild. Climate change and human activity may contribute to the decrease in population, as per Earth.org.
According to the NOAA, every year, dead sea turtles wash up, or strand, on U.S. beaches.
'In an effort to understand how weather patterns and ocean currents influence sea turtle stranding, NOAA Fisheries scientists have deployed wooden [effigies] to replicate carcasses,' the GCSTR wrote in a Facebook post.
